I liked these dialogues…

I liked this one because it is so true to what happens nowadays, she says:

“If I want to seem more attractive to the opposite sex, I don’t get my hair changed…I just update my profile”

“I had this guy leave me a voicemail at work, so called him at home and then he emailed me to my blackberry and so I texted to his cell and now you just have to go around checking all these different portals [like facebook] to get rejected by seven different technologies…..it’s exhausting!”

This just backs up my point that talking to faceless person for so long just gets you more and more depressed.

The girls are waiting offstage for me, with daggers, totally disagreeing with what my views on Facebook are. I despise Facebook. The girls are not the only ones, according to Facebook, it has 175 million active users. 175 million! That’s more than the entire population of Russia on Facebook. The owners value their company at $10 billion. What! $10 billion for a web site that lets me say hi to someone, and share a picture or two. Be serious. I could buy a country, Iceland for example; after all there is a bid on eBay. But what makes Facebook so special, and more importantly, is it really safe?
I sometimes watch BBC’s tech show; Click. There was one particular episode that really showed how vulnerable one was when using Facebook. Facebook owes its popularity – apart from luck – to the fact that it offers users various third party applications; games and quizzes for example. The programmers at Click wrote a malicious program, in the form of a game which, if added, would steal all the users’ personal data and all their friends’ data without their knowledge. So, you don’t have to be careless, you just have to be a friend with someone who is. But it isn’t fair to point the finger of blame towards the user – it’s facebook’s fault. Facebook does have a team that checks for bad software, but they do that after the application has been posted. They should check the application before it has been posted, and before a user has added it. That way everything would have been filtered before public usage.
An identity is stolen every 4 seconds in the US. Criminals are doing it through facebook more and more. People are tempted into adding games, but some applications will steal your personal details….it is in a way like a Trojan horse: evil inside but nice outside. Now the criminal on the other end of the application has all the user’s personal information, all the information that you innocently enter when creating an account. Things like: name, email, age, sex…normal things which are always asked when setting up an account. But, it also allows you to enter: country; town; zip; school; company; address – you can see that anyone with any negative intentions knows exactly where you study, live and work. They also let you enter: relationship status; interested in; looking for…wait a minute, now Facebook is an online dating service as well! It lets you enter your mobile and home numbers, the criminal has all this if you entered it; and worst of all, I found while digging around, you could also enter your credit card number. Let me get this straight, the criminal now has the potential to steal your identity, empty your bank account and even rape you. If you don’t believe this is a reality, ask the king of Morocco’s brother, even he had his identity stolen though facebook.
Facebook thrives on people entering lots of information about themselves but they had to mention that we have to be careful so the sneaky devils wrote up a huge privacy policy in which was buried in small print, “we recommend that minors over the age of 13 ask for their parents permission before sending any information about themselves over the internet.” Is that enough? Honestly, do any of you ever read the privacy policy? No.
I don’t think that facebook has the right to sacrifice the safety of its users for the health of its business. But it has already done so; it has also sacrificed its popularity with the numerous reports of facebook linked identity theft flooding the media. This can’t go on. Facebook has to put more effort and money into the safety aspect but for now, facebook is potentially dangerous as the king of Morocco’s brother found out the hard way.

know what girls are like: yak yak yak yak…and that yacking consists of: OMG, did you see her clothes; you know he broke up with her; he’s with her again, that’s the forth time; you know what she said behind so and so’s back…….and so on.

It used to be confined to face to face talking, which wasn’t very long. then every teenager had a phone, then came facebook to make matters worse. There have been recent studies showing that girls have been getting more depressed if they have a facebook account.

No blogging or social networking for indian diplomats

Such a drastic measure cannot have been taken if there wasn’t some serious safety concerns. This is good enough evidence that facebook has a lot of work to do on the safety front and it is a very strong signal to all 175 million facebook users to be very careful of what information they are realeasing. The internet was dangerous enough before, now facebook has made it even more dangerous.
